You Could Increase the Coverage You Already Have!!
(Coordination of Benefits)
Benefits under your student plan can be “coordinated” with your other plan (i.e. If you are covered through a parent or spouse or employer plan) to increase your benefit up to a total of 100% of the actual expense(s) you have incurred in a given category of coverage.
For example, after receiving the initial benefit paid out to you under your student plan you can submit the outstanding balances you would have to pay out of pocket to the other plan for consideration.
This means that an individual may receive reimbursement for up to 100% for any number of expenses eligible on each group plan. Dental and/or healthcare payments from all group plans under which a person is covered can be coordinated.
How to use the Plan to Coordinate Benefits?
The plan that determines benefits first (your primary plan) will calculate its benefits as though further coverage does not exist. The plan that determines benefits second (Your other Plan) may cover the remaining balance up to 100%. Ask your Student Service Coordinator at the Student Benefits Plan Office (see 'Your On Campus Care' section on left) for assistance in determining which plan you would submit your claim to first.
